Renewal of NC Drivers License based on H1 or L1 Extension Petition Receipt.

Good News for the H1 and L1 visa holders in North Carolina, if your license is getting expired before the approval of H1/L1 visa extension follow below steps to get you driver’s license renewed.

Send an eMail to [email protected], addressing “Donna Bartley” stating you have the receipt notice for H1/H4/L1/L2 visa extension and you need your current license to be extended.

Make sure the subject line is - “Extension of NC Driver’s license based on H1B<your visa type> extension petition receipt”

You will receive a response asking Color PDF scanned copies of receipt, passport, Current i-94 and Drivers license. You may receive the extension up to 240 days.

The DMV may consider the satisfactory completion of a Defensive Driving course, approved by the Delaware Department of Insurance, as a 3-point credit when determining driver penalties. This credit is at the discretion of the Division and may vary from case to case.

South Carolina issues both five-year and ten-year licenses. If you are a United States citizen and you visit a DMV branch office to obtain an original or renewal license, you will receive a ten-year license unless you are over 65 years of age. Persons who are 65 years of age or older may not obtain a ten year license, but will be issued a five year license.
